how it runs

what each side brings

sportsense provides

for every participant
  • an individual account for each person, with full access to the app for the whole pilot
  • a weekly office hour with Rich, for questions and whatever you are working on
  • email support throughout, at rich@sportsensetech.com
  • check ins half way through and at the end, on a call or in person
  • the coach setup guide at sportsense.coach/cec-setup

what each coach brings

about two hours a week
  • two sessions a week using sportsense with your own athletes
  • film attempts and build a small set of reference clips
  • compare athletes against those clips and track how they progress
  • film at least one competition or mock competition inside the window
  • tell us what is working and what is not, as you go

the use cases

what the pilot is testing

four workflows, chosen because they are things climbing coaches already do by hand. what the pilot tests is whether doing them in one place changes the coaching.

video analysis comparison

the athlete sees their own attempts

whether a coach can pick up the video analysis and use it well, so an athlete sees what actually changed between attempts rather than being told.

reference standard

libraries built in a controlled setting

gym sessions and camps, where movement can be filmed cleanly and built into a reference standard the whole squad works from.

competition

real events and mock comps

capture at a competition, and at the mock comps built to rehearse it, so the workflow is tested under the conditions it has to survive.

terminology

tags that mean the same thing to everyone

a shared vocabulary the coaches build during the pilot, specific enough to carry wall angle, hold type, movement context and problem type.

an additional use case to explore

a setter workflow

assesssing the viability of a setter specific use case, including a setting reference library.

success criteria

how we know it worked

a proposed starting point rather than a finished list. we would rather agree these with you before the pilot starts than argue about them at the end.

adoption

coaches and athletes are using it

coaches and athletes using the app through the pilot, for video analysis at competitions and for sharing reference clips.

coaching quality

the tools change how a coach coaches

whether comparison and the other tools in sportsense help a coach coach better, and in what ways.

competition

was it useful in a competition setting

tested at at least one competition inside the window, and whether it earned its place there.

progression

the feed becomes a lasting record

whether the feed shows progression and stands as the record of an athlete improving.

terminology

climbing terminology gets built

we start to structure the terminology and the reference tags climbing needs.

independence

can coaches and athletes use it independently

how much support they still need from us by the end of the pilot.

the window

october to december

start
october 5

accounts set up and coaches onboarded in the first week.

half way
early november

a check in for feedback and product updates, on a call or in person.

end
december 4

a final check in, the results against the criteria above, and the decision.

it ends with a straight answer from the coaches who ran it about whether there is enough value here to keep going. anything built during the pilot stays with the coaches who built it.
