sportsense × volleyball canada
raising the standard of every coach in the country
volleyball canada puts over a thousand new coaches into the pathway every year. this is a working demo of how sportsense gives each of them the national standard in their pocket, a reference library they can coach and compare against, so the base level of coaching rises across the country. most of what you will see is live in the app today.

the two problems
what we heard from you
new coaches have no shared standard to coach against
coaches entering the pathway learn what a skill looks like from wherever they can. your referent model videos and teaching points exist, but they live in a tutorial format, not in a tool coaches can compare against on court.
evaluation video is painful to capture and submit
today a coach records through zoom to shrink the file, follows a five page instruction document, works around an 800mb upload limit, and the evaluator debrief happens outside the system entirely.
live in the app today
the reference library that raises the base standard
the goal is simple. give every entry-level coach in the country the national standard in their pocket, a reference library they can coach and compare against, and the base level of coaching rises. this is the sportsense product doing exactly that today, set up for volleyball canada. no build required.
structured reference libraries
the standard, tagged and browsable. every clip filed by skill, terrain, and camera angle, so any coach can find the model they need. it is a shared feed too, so a cohort of coaches can post clips, compare, and discuss with annotations.
every clip, tagged to your matrix
sport, the skills from your matrix as actions, terrain (indoor, beach, sitting), and camera angle. tag a clip once and every coach can find it.
a referent model, ready to coach from
the skill, the tags, and the mechanics and cues from your matrix, sitting right with the video a coach compares against.
the volleyball canada reference feed
every referent model in one place, filterable by tag, a tap away on the floor.
side by side comparison
the core of sportsense, and where our success comes from. a coach films their athlete and compares against the reference model, frame by frame. this is how the standard turns into better coaching on the floor.
compare, on any clip
open your athlete's clip and tap compare (the split icon). slow motion, skeletal overlay, voiceover, and draw are all live here too.
auto-filtered to the right model
sportsense reads the tags on the athlete's clip and filters the reference feed to the same skill and camera angle. the coach just picks the model.
side by side, frame by frame
the athlete and the model together, each on its own scrub bar, so a coach lines up the exact moment. this is what sportsense is built on.
the mapping
your matrix is already the library spec
the skills library matrix answers every structural question the library build would ask. below is one row of it, and where each column lands in sportsense. nothing needs inventing, it maps.
the full library, at scale
the same feed, structured across all 40 skills
the screens above are live today. this is how your full matrix organizes the library as it grows from a handful of clips to the complete national standard, every skill, every discipline.
1 · browse the library, structured by your matrix
all 40 skills from the volleyball canada skills library matrix, organized by pillar and category, filtered by terrain. the same skill IDs, the same terminology, from SRV-01 to PSY-03, right down to the set numbering.
2 · open a referent model
each skill carries the model video plus everything your matrix already defines: the technical mechanics as teaching points, and the tactical cue reading as a decisions layer. a new coach sees what right looks like, and exactly what to look for.
3 · compare an athlete against the model
the coach films an athlete, drops the clip next to the referent model, and scrubs both in sync, with annotation, voiceover, and a skeletal overlay on top. these comparison tools are live in the app today.

the evaluation workflow
how certification bodies already run evaluations on sportsense:
- a private feed per evaluation, the candidate and the evaluator in it
- video clips submitted from a phone, no zoom, no 800mb limit
- the full review in the feed, for first tests and retests
the evaluation workflow today (on sportsense.)
the evaluation workflow, already running on sportsense
the headache you told us about, zoom to shrink files, a five page doc, an 800mb ceiling, a debrief that lives outside the system. other certification bodies already run their evaluations on sportsense. each one is its own feed with the candidate and the evaluator in it, live today, for first tests and retests. here is how it works.
one feed per evaluation
each evaluation is its own private feed, just the candidate and the evaluator in it. the candidate films and submits right there, no zoom, no 800mb email limit.
the candidate adds their video
inside the evaluation feed, the candidate uploads or films their clip straight in.
the submission, in the feed
the video lands as a post the evaluator can open, watch, and work from.
the skill, captured as it uploads
as the coach adds the clip, sportsense captures the skill, terrain, and angle automatically, so it maps to your matrix with no manual filing.
the evaluator reviews and responds
the evaluator works the submission without leaving the feed, a full frame by frame breakdown with recorded video feedback.
full video feedback
the evaluator opens the analyzer and records a voiceover walkthrough, with slow motion, skeletal overlay, and draw on the athlete's clip.
transcribed and reposted
the spoken feedback is transcribed to text and reposted to the feed with the tags, so the candidate has it in writing too.
it all stays in one place
the evaluation lives as one thread, every comment and message on the record, and the evaluator sees every submission in order. first tests and retests both run here.
a comment, right on the post
a quick note back to the candidate, in line with the exact clip.
discuss it in messages
messages sit alongside the posts, for the back and forth through an evaluation.
every submission, in order
the evaluator's home lists incoming submissions in order, so nothing slips through.
how it fits the pathway
one platform, three layers of the pathway
the pathway library
every coach entering certification gets the volleyball canada referent library as part of the pathway. a shared standard from day one, provided by the organization, not sold coach by coach.
compare and improve
coaches film their athletes and compare against the reference models, so the standard turns into better coaching between and during sessions, not just a video they watched once.
full coaching tools
the coaches who want more opt into the full sportsense toolkit, athlete video feedback, comparison analysis, and their own coaching workflows, at pathway member pricing.
